One of the Appaloosa horse's best-known characteristics is its mottled skin with darker pigmentation around the eyes, muzzle, and genitals. The breed also has prominent white sclera around the eyes and hooves with vertical light or dark stripes.

The Appaloosa Horse (Equus ferus caballus) is derived from the wild mustang horse, a Spanish horse descendant. This horse is one of the world's most distinctive and valuable American horse breeds. In addition to its unique features found in the coat pattern, this horse only has white and dark striped hooves and a white sclera that is visible around the eye's iris.
